This variety of val has the same curly blades as it's larger cousin, Val Contortionist, but stays at a compact size of around 6-8 inches. It is a great midground plant or background plant for nano tanks.
Vallisneria plants are low maintenance, easy to grow and propagate, and have fairly low nutrient requirements as far as fast growing plants go. They are a great starter plant for beginner aquarists because of this, and their ability to grow in a variety of water parameters and temperatures. Val plants routinely send out long strings called runners that develop plantlets (baby plants with their own root systems). To propagate your val, all you need to do is pop the plantlet off the mother either by hand or with scissors, and put it directly into the soil.
