Common Name: Red Tiger Lotus, Nymphaea Zenkeri
Average Mature Height: 5 to 30 inches (depends on trimming and aquarium height)
Recommended Lighting: Medium to High
Red Tiger Lotus is a very popular addition to the planted aquarium. It is known for its rich red leaves and deep purple spots. They are quite easy to care for and are beloved in the hobby by beginner and advanced aquascapers alike. Once established, they can grow new leaves almost overnight!
Like other Lotus varieties, these sprout long flexible stems from a single bulb. As the plant matures, it will send out longer and longer stems until it reaches the surface of your aquarium. In this case, trimming the leaves that float on the surface is recommended, so that the lower foliage does not die off. You can maintain the shape and size of your lotus plant by continually removing stems that grow past your desired height. When planting, make sure that at least half of the bulb remains above the substrate to prevent rotting.
