Common Name: Smooth Frogbit, South American/West Indian Spongeplant, Limnobium

Average Mature Size: leaves reaching up to 2 inches in diameter

Recommended Lighting: Medium to High

Frogbit is a dense growing floater that produces large, round leaves that are emerald green in color. It gets the name Spongeplant from the unique squishy texture of its underside. Frogbit grows extensive roots that can nearly reach all the way to the bottom of your aquarium, making it a valuable addition to breeding tanks or community tanks with small fish.

Frogbit is an excellent absorber for excess nutrients! It will propagate itself by sending out side shoots that develop in to new plants. Hot tip: If you want to encourage your frogbit to grow larger leaves, check each floret for offshoots and gently pull on the stem to remove them. By doing this, each floret will be able to dedicate more nutrients towards leaf growth, and you will get an extra plantlet as well!
