The Altlandsberg sword is a new and uncommon hybrid sword introduced to the aquarium trade by US nurseries. It has broad- round leaves with deep, red colored ribbing from the petiole to the apex. The base leaf color can range from bright green to rusty red, and can have splotches of brighter red and pink on top. The stems are thick and range in color from brown to red. It can grow to great sizes, reaching the top of any aquarium where it will send out stems that grow large white flowers that eventually form baby plantlets.
As a member of the Echinodorus species, this sword requires a nutrient rich soil bed that is deep enough to contain it's extensive root system. Frequent supplementation with root tabs is necessary to continue it's prolific growth.
