Common name: Water Cabbage, Shellflower

Average Mature Size: Rosettes up to 3 inches in diameter

Recommended Lighting: Medium to High

This variety of Pistia Stratiotes is much smaller and more delicate in comparison to regular Water Lettuce. Dwarf water lettuce has rounder and smoother leaves that are quite thin. Unlike it's big sibling, its leaves rest parallel to the water's surface, creating a smooth, velvety covering for your aquarium.

Dwarf water lettuce is quick growing and excellent at absorbing excess nutrients from the water column. Its roots can grow several inches long, and provide shelter for fry and small fish. Dwarf water lettuce will propagate itself by growing runners that have baby plantlets attached to the end. You can encourage individual rosettes to grow larger by removing the plantlets manually. These plants can be easily managed using floating dividers to fence off areas where growth is not desired. When disposing of this plant's waste, take care to avoid accidentally introducing it to your local waterways.
