Common Name: Anubias Congensis

Average Mature Size: 12-14 inches

Recommended Light: Medium

Often confused with Anubias Afzelii, Anubias Congensis is a distinct species with a few notable differences from it's genetic relatives. Anubias Congensis has ovular leaves that are wider than that of the Afzelii, as well as thicker with prominent lateral veins extending from the midrib on the underside of the leaves. Congensis tend to grow taller, sometimes reaching up to 16 inches in height, and have thicker rhizomes.

All species of Anubias are epiphytes, meaning they grow from a rhizome that cannot be buried under the substrate. They grow best when attached to hardscape, so that the increased waterflow allows for better nutrient absorption and prevents rot. You can propagate Anubias easily by cutting the rhizome directly between nodes, making sure that each cutting has it's own roots and leaves for the best chance of success.
